Belly Flop
Belly Flop
For the Commodore 64!
Nuclear War has wiped out all life on the surface of planet. But life persist. Freshly crawled from the ocean, this floppy fish is ready to re-colonize the land.
Living on the land seems to involve a lot of falling down flat on your belly. Watch out for radioactive dust particles.
The goal of this game is to get to end of the level, all the way to the right, without getting killed.

Post mortem:
This is my first game for the C64, written entirely in assembly language. The code for game mechanics and all graphics (sprites, screens) were all made over a weekend for MiniJam #180 . A lot of code for screen scrolling, basic sprite handling, 16 bit integer math & other infrastructure was written before the Jam. But, oh boy, did I do a lot of debugging!
I'm also really happy that I found the C64 emulator from Floooh's awesome Chips project. I made some really simple changes to the source code to load a PRG file from the start, and it's perfect for hosting on Itch.
The game itself is really basic and simple. Just one small level. No animations. Writing a game in assembly for a weekend jam is a bit too much really. Still, i'm pretty happy with how far I got.
The music is probably the best bit in the game, but I just took it from the internet. See Credits.
